If you are having fertility treatment abroad, you will often need regular ultrasound scans. It can be difficult to stay abroad for a long period for fertility treatment. For the treatment itself, such as insemination, the IVF or ICSI egg retrieval or (fresh) embryo transfers, you will of course need to be abroad. But in the period beforehand, you can often be treated remotely, provided that ultrasound monitoring can take place.
At Nij Clinics, we can carry out these ultrasound scans for you. We offer the option of having an ultrasound scan to monitor fertility treatment taking place abroad.
Ultrasound monitoring, also known as follicle tracking, maps the growth of your follicles and your endometrium (lining of the uterus) during your treatment.
One of our doctors carries out the scan and you receive the report both digitally and on paper. You then forward this report yourself to your treating doctor abroad, so that your treatment there can continue as smoothly as possible.
Please note: for fertility treatment abroad, we only offer ultrasound monitoring. Any blood tests that are needed cannot be carried out at our clinic.
You pay for a scan for treatment elsewhere by debit card at the clinic, after the scan has been done. You can find the fees for a scan for treatment elsewhere on our list of fees.
Uninsured care
Ultrasound monitoring is generally not covered by basic health insurance if the treatment takes place abroad. Check with your health insurer beforehand what conditions they apply to reimbursement.
With ultrasound scans, we monitor the ovaries and the follicles within them.
This video shows an example of an ultrasound image typical of the stimulation phase of IVF or ICSI treatment. Several follicles can be seen in the ovary on this scan. As soon as the doctor decides that the follicles are large enough, the egg retrieval can be scheduled.
