If you want to donate sperm through the Nij Clinics donor bank, you donate to intended parents you do not know. The clinic selects and matches your donation with couples or single people who wish to have a child.
If you donate sperm to someone you know, you donate specifically to a person you know, such as a friend or a couple who wish to have a child. In this case, you make agreements about the donation together, and the intended parents consciously choose you as their donor. The clinic guides the process with medical screening, counselling and legal information to make sure everything is properly recorded.
Our donor banks (Elsendorp & Wolvega) accept, freeze and store sperm from healthy sperm donors. This sperm is used for intended parents where the male partner has reduced fertility or where there is no male partner.
Major shortage of donors
There is a major shortage of sperm and egg donors in the Netherlands. As a result, the waiting list for a sperm donor from our donor bank is growing. An alternative for intended parents is to use a sperm donor from a European donor bank.
Becoming a donor?
Are you interested in becoming a sperm donor for our donor bank or for someone you know? Please read the information leaflet for sperm donors carefully.
Despite the shortage of donors, strict laws and regulations apply to accepting donors. You can register as a sperm donor if you meet the following conditions:
¹Not applicable if you register as a known sperm donor for someone you know.
In the Netherlands, it is not permitted to pay for donations. As donating costs you time and money, you receive an expense allowance. The allowance is paid monthly, in the following month. The amount of the allowance for sperm donation is listed in our list of fees.
We handle your data with care. Your personal and medical details are locked with a code in our computer system and can only be accessed with this code.
Since 2004, the details of sperm, egg and embryo donors have been registered nationally. The Donor Data Board for Artificial Fertilisation (College donorgegevens kunstmatige bevruchting, CDKB) manages this data and provides it on request to the donor-conceived child, the parents or the GP.

You can stop donating at any time. We do ask you to have your blood and urine tested once more 6 months after your last donation, so that we can still use your sperm safely.
