Please note: only the clinics in Elsendorp and Wolvega use this sperm bank.
At Nij Clinics, we have our own sperm banks. The sperm stored in our banks is intended exclusively for treatments at our own clinics. Sperm from our bank is therefore not supplied abroad.
PLEASE NOTE: the waiting time at our donor bank is approximately 2 to 3 years.
We ensure a strict selection of the donors we work with. Donors are selected on the basis of sperm quality, general health and motivation. Sperm donors are tested for transmissible infectious diseases throughout the entire donation process. In our conversations with donors, we pay close attention to the ethical aspects of sperm donation.

The clinics in Elsendorp and Wolvega work with the Danish sperm bank Born, which supplies donor sperm to fertility clinics throughout Europe and the rest of the world. The sperm bank is known for its responsible donor policy, clear worldwide family limits and personal service.
At Born, all donor candidates undergo a thorough screening process in line with the requirements of the health authorities and the EU Tissues and Cells Directive. The screening includes a detailed review of the donor's medical and family history, a clinical health examination and an assessment of medical suitability.
From the outset, Born applies clear worldwide limits of 25 or 75 families. This ensures responsible use across different countries and offers:
- Transparency about how many families your donor may help worldwide
- The certainty that your child will not have an uncontrolled number of donor siblings
- Better medical traceability, should this be needed in the future
In addition, Born always strives for an altruistic approach to donor recruitment, ensuring that donation takes place with respect for future families and donor-conceived children.
At Born, we offer personal and flexible support throughout the entire process, from first considerations through to treatment. You can contact our customer service team whenever you need to, without making an appointment in advance. You can also schedule a digital appointment at a time that suits you.
You have free access to extensive information about each donor, including physical characteristics, health information, baby photos and personal descriptions. This allows you to make a well-considered choice that feels right.

As of 1 April 2025, the Artificial Fertilisation Donor Data Act (Wet donorgegevens kunstmatige bevruchting, Wdkb) has been amended. The most important change is that, from 1 April 2025, each donor may be linked to a maximum of 12 different mother codes – in other words, 12 families. Once this maximum has been reached, the donor may no longer be used for new treatments in the Netherlands.
This change in the law contributes to better regulation, more clarity and protection for future donor-conceived children.
Donors are carefully screened and selected on the basis of strict medical, genetic and psychological criteria. This includes an extensive medical history, tests for genetic conditions and psychological evaluations. When choosing a donor, you can often indicate certain preferences, such as the donor's ethnicity and physical characteristics. Once you have chosen a donor, you complete the ordering process yourself.
Legal aspects
It is important to know the legal rights and obligations regarding the use of donor sperm, such as the child's right to obtain information about the donor, and the legal status of the donor.
