A fertility journey can ask a lot of you – physically, emotionally and mentally. At Nij Clinics, we offer psychological support to everyone who wishes to have a child. Whether you are just starting out, in the middle of treatment, or finished your treatment some time ago: you are welcome.
Seeing a counsellor can be a mandatory part of a treatment. To offer everyone the support they need, we work both with counsellors employed by us and with external partners.
How can we support you?
Our psychological support can be valuable at different stages of your journey. For example:
- If you are unsure whether you want to start fertility treatment.
- During the process of choosing a sperm or egg donor.
- During treatment, if you find it emotionally or mentally demanding.
- After your treatment has ended, for example when coming to terms with disappointment or grief.
We offer support with themes such as:
- Increasing your resilience during treatment.
- Dealing with emotions such as helplessness, sadness or frustration.
- Stress-related symptoms such as worrying, sleep problems or fatigue.
- Communication with the people around you or your partner.
- Tension within your relationship or in your sex life.
- Difficult choices around your wish to have a child, for example after a diagnosis.
- Accepting an outcome other than the one you hoped for, such as not becoming pregnant.
- Coming to terms with grief and loss, such as not having a genetically related child.
- The question of whether – and how – you want to be open with the people around you or your (future) child.
