Liza: “When I first walked into Nij Clinics in 2022, I felt exhausted. My partner and I had been trying for a baby for years. The hope, the waiting, the disappointments – it was eating away at me. I had reached a point where I had lost myself. But at Nij Clinics I felt truly seen.

A personal journey

From the very first appointment, I felt that they were listening to me, not just to my medical data. There was room for my story. My doctor explained everything calmly, gave me options and looked not only at my body, but also at who I am as a person. That made all the difference.

We started with a number of tests, followed by treatment with ovulation induction. When that didn’t give the result we had hoped for, we moved on to IUI. Every step was decided together, with care and attention.

A mental battle

What people sometimes forget is that a fertility journey is incredibly tough mentally. It felt as though my life was on hold while the world around me carried on. I had to learn to cope with uncertainty, grief and the feeling that I was failing.

What helped me was talking. With my partner, with a coach I found through Nij Clinics, and with other women in the same boat. I started journaling – simply writing down what I felt, without judgement. That cleared some space in my head. I also looked more consciously for things that did give me energy: walking, listening to music, meeting up with people I could be myself with.

The power of trust

I think the greatest gift of this journey is the trust I have found again. Not only in my body, but also in the process. Thanks to the support from Nij Clinics, I felt stronger than I thought I was. They reminded me that my feelings were valid, without letting me lose heart.

I’m now pregnant – something I had almost stopped daring to hope for at one point. But the most important thing I’ve learned is that your strength doesn’t depend on the outcome. It lies in how you keep going, even when it’s hard. You’re allowed to find it hard and still keep going – that’s what I learned at Nij Clinics.”
